5 Tips To A Glowing Healthy Skin

The skin is one of the most important yet neglected parts of the body. Very few people will take 10 minutes of their time for a deep skin cleanse, or even ensure it is protected from the harsh elements of the weather. This, however, comes at a cost, most notably premature aging signs. You can, however, enjoy youthful and radiant skin for much longer through a few simple steps and tricks.   1. Protect It from The Sun

While basking in the morning or evening sun replenishes your vitamin D supply, you still need to protect your skin from the harsh sun. Prolonged exposure to the sun is known to cause age spots, wrinkles, flaky skin, and several other skin conditions. Protecting your skin from harmful sunrays can, however, help prevent these.  You can protect your skin from the sun by:

–           Seeking shade: Look for shaded areas while outdoors or simply avoid going outside when the sun is the strongest.

–           Apply sunscreen: Sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15 helps reflect the harmful rays away, hence recommended while outdoors.

–           Cover your skin: Putting on protecting clothing and ensuring no skin is exposed to direct sunlight can work too.  Long pants, long-sleeved shirts, and wide-brimmed hats do come in handy in these conditions. You could also look for clothing and accessories designed to block UV rays as well.


  1. Quit Smoking

Smoking is not only bad for your lungs, but can also have devastating effects on your skin health as well.  According to research, smoking causes blood vessels in the outer layer of the skin to shrink/narrow out, leading to decreased blood flow to the same. This thus means individual layers of the skin will not get enough oxygen and nutrients; one of the reasons most smokers have pale skin.


Smoking can also damage elastin and collage, compounds required for more elastic and firmer skin.  The effects of this can be seen with stretch marks and thin lines all over your face and other parts of the body. Left unchecked, smoking increases your risk of skin cancer, commonly known as squamous cell skin cancer. The only way you can protect yourself from all this is if you stop smoking for good.   1. Be Gentle with Your Skin

Treating your skin right can see you enjoy youthful and radiant skin for a lot longer than your peers. Being careful with what you do with your skin and the products you use on the same can make all the difference. For starters, you need not shave or deep cleanse every day. Doing so only stresses skin cells. You can, however, care for your skin by:


–           Not bathing for too long: Bathing for too long only increases the risk of stripping the skin of essential oils. You also should consider bathing with warm water instead of hot water.

–           Avoid strong cleansers: Strong scented soaps and detergents can wreak havoc to your skin as well. Go for mild soaps instead.

–           Shaving carefully: Always lubricate the skin first, then apply shaving cream before shaving. You might also want to use a sharp razor and cut in the direction of the hair.

–           Pat dry the skin: Use a soft towel to pat dry your skin. Pat-drying ensures the skin isn’t left completely dry.


–           Use a moisturizer: This is particularly recommended for those with dry skin. Moisturizers help keep the skin hydrated and soft throughout the day.


  1. Eat Healthily

The type of foods you eat play a significant role in how healthy your skin will be. That said, it would be advisable to focus on whole and fresh foods. Whole grains, vegetables, fresh fruits, and lean proteins are particularly good for the skin. Some seafood would be welcome too. Be sure to drink lots of water between meals to ensure your body and skin cells stay hydrated.


  1. Learn to Manage Stress

Although unavoidable, unmanaged stress can take a toll on your health and skin as well. Stress is known to trigger skin sensitivity, acne breakouts, and other nasty skin conditions. A healthy state of mind is therefore recommended if you are to have smooth and radiant skin. The first step to this is by learning to manage and control your stress levels. Simple exercises such as deep breathing, yoga, and staying physically active can help reduce the effects of stress.

For the bedroom, reading lights are preferable compared to bedside lamps because they provide more diffused light. Candle lighting works perfectly in creating a Zen environment where you’re sleeping.

Bring in indoor plants! Research has proven the physical and mental advantages of being around greenery. Adding nature elements in your household can prove to be therapeutic, as it helps enhance overall wellbeing and reduce stress.


What’s more, indoor plants improve the quality of air. According to research done by NASA, it was found that golden pothos and spider plants were the most advantageous plants.


More studies done by the American Society of Horticultural Science proved the positive impacts of golden pothos, spider plant, and snake plant. The conclusion was that these plants minimized ozone concentrations in an indoor setting.

  1. Enjoy Aromatherapy

Alongside promoting relaxation, there are several healing benefits when it comes to aromatherapy. Positioning aromatherapy diffusers across the house will do wonders for your general health.


How does it function? The aromatherapy essential oils activate the limbic system in your brain. The limbic system controls memory, learning, emotions, and more.


To create a Zen environment, you will want to use an essential oil like lavender. Lavender will calm the nervous system, reduce stress, lower heart rate, blood pressure, and change brain waves.
